Motorsports would like to congratulate 2 time
Canadian Superbike Champion Michael Taylor and 16
year old “young gun” Kenny Riedmann on outstanding
weekend performances. With the unfortunate
circumstances surrounding the team losing their #1
rider Frank Trombino in a very serious crash in
testing at the Mosport National’s in July Prostar
Motorsports had to settle on a quiet summer and
recovery time for both the injured rider and shaken
team. But, with Trombino’s recovery coming along
well and a fleet of Prostar Suzuki GSXR’s sitting
idle, the urge to go racing was too great and being
approached by both Roland Riedmann (ex 80’s AMA 250
fast guy and Kenny’s father) and Mike Taylor (2
times the best in Canada) and with Frank’s blessing,
a deal to race the final National of the year at
Shannonville was arranged.
“At first, it was a fun idea, a bit of a scary one, but fun” states Prostar’s Ben Gartner “we had both ends of racing spectrum covered going into the weekend, Kenny’s a young guy with very little production bike or National experience and Mike has been a National fixture forever” Gartner continued “our teams GSXR’s have been around for a couple of years and we knew they were well sorted bikes, Frank’s put that thing in the 4’s around here (referring to Frank’s 1:04:91 Regional lap time on the Pro track using the same GSXR1000) I was confident that IF Mike could get a hold of it (without a lot of changes) we would be OK……BUT, the thing isn’t an air cooled twin! It’s FAST, serious fast, to be truthful I was little nervous about the fact Taylor had not ridden a Superbike in a couple of years.”………. “A mid 1:06:4 in pre “Pirelli Super Poll” qualifying and a 7th place finish in a Canadian National Superbike event after a year layoff, what’s to be nervous about? That’s just fantastic” stated Joel Nodell, Prostar’s owner “and with Kenny’s 10th place in AM600, in his first 600 race ever, it was a great weekend for the team.” “Good point” agreed Gartner “Mike has done this before, he looked every bit the Champion he is, the man’s just fast and once he got his head around the speed and the excellent grip of the Pirelli’s he looked great, his finish and lap time proved he’s still a competitive racer at the National level. Kenny, on the other hand was thrown in the deep end, sure we tested the 600’s (the same bikes Trombino used to podium at Shubie National in 2007), but you can’t test the anxiety a National event gives you, but he handled that like a seasoned professional, this kid has talent. I can’t tell you how many people made comments on his ability, how he looks on a bike, seating position, shifting, hanging off all of it and a 10th place finish, just a great weekend for the entire team” ProStar Motorsports would like to thank the following: Suzuki Canada, Orion Motorsports/Pirelli tires, Bickle Tire warmers, Hindle Exhaust, Riedmann Management, High Side health care, Ripp Racing, VP Racing Fuels Ontario |
