Prostar Motorsports National Rounds 4&5 Mosport Report

7/12/2010 - The Parts Canada National Super Bike series returned to historic Mosport International Raceway one of the most demanding race tracks in the world for rounds 4-5 of the Super Bike National Series. ProStar Motorsports was looking to rebound after the team’s disappointing western trip to Calgary’s Race City. With ProStar rider Frank Trombino considering Mosport one of his favorite tracks and with Tremblay sidelined with an injury the team was ready and focused on Frank’s needs as well as helping rider Jody Greening compete in the Parts Canada Amateur Sports Bike class. .
“I love this place” stated Trombino “it’s fast and scary, it’s a 180 MPH roller coaster ride which is the fun of this place, but you always have to be aware of the danger here…….. this place is super fast and any mistakes can be big, really big I have personal experience with that” With the Calgary National behind the team things had to be looking better for Mosport “I can’t believe the kid’s luck” commented Ben Gartner, referring to Sebastien Tremblay’s most recent mishap “he had a solid drama free Saturday at Calgary, fifth place, good points and contingency, great to see and just what the kid needed …….. It’s unbelievable the guy has had no luck at all this year”

Thursday’s Mosport official testing showed that Frank was in good form “you have to find a rhythm and start cranking out the fast laps, test your setup, your tires and your personal stamina”. “This place will just drain you mentally and physically, it’s a double header as well and we are doing both premier classes, it’s going to be a very long two days”. Being third quick in both classes on Thursday had Team ProStar very happy “Frank’s pace is very good, our 600 is down a bit on Jody and Szoke but that is Fast.Co power and that means it’s big power” commented ProStar’s Joel Nodell “but we should race well, the draft is very important here”.
With Friday being mostly a rain out and after a failed try at super pole late in the afternoon, Saturday was lined up based on how the teams ran on Thursday “we are going really well ………. maybe too good, Szoke ran a “twenty” on Thursday in the heat [referring to Jordan Szoke’s amazing 1:20:829 in testing on his Fast Company prepared CBR1000RR] that’s really fast, we might see a “nineteen” if we get a good day, that’s insane around here” Gartner commented.

Saturday turned out to be a hot sunny day perfect for racing, and after a great three bike battle, Szoke claimed another Superbike win with Trombino making a last lap pass on Francis Martin in the “S’s” for second giving Honda a one/two and Martin and his Factory BMW third with Trombino running the races fastest lap an amazing 1:21:143 …….. just an unbelievable race and lap time for Trombino and the ProStar Motorsports/Sturgess Cycle/Sports Center Café CBR1000RR “it’s a fantastic bike” grinned an exhausted Trombino “the CBR1000RR really works around here it’s fast, it handles great, holds its line and goes where I want it, this is great just what the team and our sponsors needed…… that was a fast pace out there”. But unfortunately for the team the motorcycle refused to stay running in post race tech and could not do the required dyno runs the series demands. “I don’t believe it…….. We filled that bike’s tank to the top. I let Frank and the team down today, I’m speechless” stated a very disappointed Gartner “the series have rules, I would love to argue them but …….. they are the rules, I just can’t believe it, Frank and the team worked so hard for that finish, what can I say” a solid third place in the Pro Sports Bike class helped dull the pain for the team and rider, it was also a Honda CBR600RR sweep with Szoke, Christie and Trombino all on the box, Sunday would be another race day with an even more determined Frank Trombino.  “This team seems cursed this weekend” stated Nodell after Sunday’s Pro Sport Bike race “they gave Frank a jump start! He took his foot off the peg put it on the ground…….. That’s a jump start? There was NO advantage gained by him putting his foot down, none” an absolute fantastic Pro Sport Bike race saw it end in controversy for more than Team ProStar “Trombino raced his heart out for what turned out to be forth place after the 5 second penalty was assessed but finishing second on the track “I can’t believe it” stated a very disappointed Trombino “…….. I won’t believe it, this is wrong”

Sunday afternoon’s Super Bike Race promised to be a barn burner “Frank’s still not overly happy about things” smiled Gartner “he’s hungry and angry and he’s going really well around this place right now, this should get interesting” a bad start, but a fantastic climb through traffic netted Trombino and the team a solid third place and another trip to victory circle and the dyno “I was thinking about too many things on the starting line” commented Trombino “they had just got me for jumping a start so I made sure the lights went out, I needed a good clean start no chances…….. the clutch grabbed and I fought it a bit and, well the front two guys were gone, the top five or six guys have fast bikes it just took too long to clear them, third place is great today, a nice weekend for the team” stated a happier Frank Trombino. “I saw the fuel in the tank this time, the bike started and ran on the dyno, but the fuel light was on” stated a very relieved Gartner “but the thing ran out of gas again”, thankfully the series had done all the “pulls” required and the bike passed the post race testing.  “We also need to thank Jody Greening who raced his ProStar Motorsports / Sturgess Cycle / SPYKE leathers Suzuki GSXR600 to an outstanding forth place in the Parts Canada Amateur Sport Bike race on Saturday, he went two places better Sunday to finish an amazing second to championship leader Archambault and turned the fastest lap of the race” commented Joel Nodell “he is clearly showing he can match any of the fast kids coming up in the AM600 ranks ……. The ProStar team is very pleased with Jody’s progress and performance he’s a great guy and the success looks good on him and his family”.
